The solar is overpanelled to approx 120% giving you more production in the early and later part of the day while clipping in the middle of the day. This is an effective strategy to increase the value of solar systems.

Our battery features 2 Amps of Active cell balancing which we now regard as very important for large cell batteries.
Reports are coming in very often that many batteries are having balancing issues. Our battery ensures a much longer lifespan.

Additional components, PV combiner box, cabling, and circuit protection is required for a fully functioning Victron System.
This system, requires consideration of the current of parallel solar array configuration, which will require a PV combiner box to ensure currents are not exceeded through the PV cable

You can install a Victron MultiPlus-II 48/5000 inverter and an MPPT 250/85 charge controller without using a Cerbo GX. These devices are designed to operate independently, managing power conversion and solar charging functions on their own. However, integrating a Cerbo GX or similar GX device enhances system monitoring and control capabilities, providing a centralized interface for real-time data and configuration adjustments. In most cases its advised to install a Cerbo and a Lynx Distributor to ensure the optimal management and safety.

Without a Cerbo GX, you’ll need to configure and monitor each component separately, which may limit your ability to optimize system performance and access advanced features. For instance, firmware updates and detailed performance analytics are more accessible with a GX device. Therefore, while not strictly necessary, incorporating a Cerbo GX can significantly enhance the functionality and user experience of your Victron energy system.

We have provided the Victron Solar MPPT Calculator Charts for some regions of Australia, These are to be used as a rough estimate. As they are often incorrect, but can give some idea to how much power this bundle could generate if installed in an optimal way. (eg, perfect panel alignment and installed by a competent and qualified expert electrical professional)

Here are the practical ways it manages a lithium battery with no Cerbo:“Dumb” lithium (no comms)

Program the Multi with VE.Configure (via MK3-USB): choose Lithium profile, set Absorption ~56.0–56.8 V, Float ~54.0–54.4 V, disable Equalize, short Absorption (e.g., 30–60 min) and use Tail Current to exit early.

Limit Charge Current to what the pack can accept (e.g., ≤0.5 C total across all chargers).The pack’s internal BMS is the safety net (it will open on over/under-voltage or low temp). For cold-charge protection, add a simple thermostat or BMS relay to the Multi’s Remote on/off so charging is inhibited below 0 °C.

For accurate SoC, add a SmartShunt (optional, but recommended). Or buy a cerbo which will directly communicate with the Battery BMS to ensure optimal configuration

What you miss without a Cerbo

  • No DVCC (the “live” charge-voltage/current limits sent from smart batteries), no automatic low-temperature charge block from the BMS, no per-second dynamic current limiting, no ESS/self-consumption control, no VRM portal monitoring, and no CAN-battery integrations (e.g., Pylontech/BYD) since the Cerbo is the translator. Many CAN-bus lithium brands expect a GX device for full compatibility & warranty.

Bottom line

  • Yes, it can work on its own.  Configure it as a generic LiFePO₄ profile (plus an additional cold-charge inhibit) 

  • If you’re using a CAN-enabled rack battery (Like ours which has a Victron protocol built into the BMS, or a Pylontech, BYD, etc.) or doing grid-tie ESS, add a Cerbo for proper comms, DVCC, and control.

Purchased a Deye inverter from LiFePo4 in June 2026. I am pleased to say that the inverter has been running perfectly with no issues for the last 1½ months. It has been installed into an off-grid system on a very recently built granny flat. This inverter was ideal for our situation and was easy to set up. The 2 trackers were very handy as we needed to deal with 2 different sets of strings operating at 2 different voltages. It certainly looks like a very well designed and robust inverter and will hopefully last us many, many years. If and when we need to replace the inverters on the main house, we will certainly be looking at using Deye.
LiFePo4 provided free delivery, which was very quick, arrived in only a couple of days. They sent me an email checking on how we were going with the installation and offered assistance if we needed it. Excellent Company to deal with and I would purchase from them again in future.

I totally agree with the other 5 star reviews and can highly recommend buying lithium cells from this business. I received my order of 72 automotive MB31 batteries quickly and I am very impressed. All the cells were within 0.01 of a volt so didn’t require balancing or top charging before installing. They are the real deal A+ automotive grade EVE cells as advertised and not B grade rubbish some online sellers are supplying. Mark actually answers the phone if you need to discuss anything before purchasing and is one of the few people I have found selling lithium batteries that actually now’s about how to install and set voltage settings in the BMS’s he sells.
