Federal and state support can reduce the cost of an eligible project. The value depends on the battery, solar, property, installer, installation date and current rules.
What does the federal battery program currently cover?
Eligible new battery systems must be 5–100kWh nominal capacity, connected to new or existing solar PV of no more than 100kW, use a CEC-approved battery and be installed by an appropriately accredited installer. Other safety, product and evidence rules also apply.
Does every kilowatt-hour receive the same support?
No. For installations from 1 May to 31 December 2026, the STC factor is 6.8 and capacity support tapers:
- 0–14kWh usable: 100%
- Above 14–28kWh: 60%
- Above 28–50kWh: 15%
Only the first 50kWh of usable capacity can earn federal battery STCs.
Can an off-grid home qualify?
Yes, if the battery serves a lived-in dwelling and the other rules are met. A standalone shed or bore pump does not qualify by itself. Properties more than 1km from the grid do not need VPP capability; different evidence or capability rules apply within 1km.
Do I have to claim the discount or join a VPP?
No. You can request a quote before incentives and choose not to assign STCs. VPP capability can be an eligibility requirement, but it does not itself enrol you in a VPP. Any enrolment is a separate choice with separate terms.
What information is involved in an STC claim?
The process is not anonymous. It uses property and system details, product serial numbers, installer information, declarations, compliance records and current geotagged and time-stamped photo evidence. The Clean Energy Regulator may request records for up to five years. We explain the claim pathway before asking you to assign certificates.
Are state incentives included automatically?
No. State and territory programs have their own eligibility, funding and compatibility rules. We check the programs relevant to your postcode rather than assuming they can be combined.
Are the batteries compatible with Victron?
The selected 48V lithium batteries are intended for Victron-based systems. We confirm the exact battery model, BMS communications, GX device, firmware, charge limits and protection for the final design—not just the nominal voltage.
What is included in a pre-wired board or installation?
The written quote defines it. A pre-wired board can include the agreed Victron equipment, monitoring, DC distribution and protection. A full installation can add site assessment, detailed design, compliant installation, commissioning and eligible incentive administration.
