Stored energy
How much can it hold?
Compare usable kWh, capacity per stack and the supported number of stacks. A large platform maximum may need different equipment from a smaller installation.
Home solar batteries • Platform capabilities • Australia
How far can each battery system expand? What can it power, does it have a heater, and can it live outdoors? Compare the capabilities of FoxESS, Sungrow, GoodWe, Sigenergy, Tesla and other battery platforms before choosing your configuration.
The same battery platform can serve very different homes. Its potential comes from the available inverter sizes, compatible batteries, expansion arrangements and backup equipment—not just the configuration in a starter offer.
Stored energy
Compare usable kWh, capacity per stack and the supported number of stacks. A large platform maximum may need different equipment from a smaller installation.
Power delivery
Check battery-only output, inverter rating and limits on each phase. More storage does not automatically increase power.
Your installation
Match the exact model to your climate, installation space and backup goals. Heater availability and outdoor restrictions differ within a brand.
This guide compares manufacturer-documented capabilities, not independent test scores or sales rankings. We sell several of these brands and include other systems to help you assess alternatives. Maximum configurations still need a compatible design, current Australian equipment approvals and site assessment.
Per stack or unit describes one assembly. Expansion describes a larger documented arrangement, which can require additional controllers, inverters or connection equipment. Nominal and usable capacities are labelled separately.
| Platform | Storage and expansion potential | Power / phase options | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| GoodWe ESA | Current AU battery table lists up to 12 modules, with six per column. Twelve 9kWh nominal / 8.7kWh usable modules give 108kWh nominal / 104.4kWh usable, calculated. | AU single-phase models: 3–9.999kW. Three-phase ESA/ETA family: 5–30kW; confirm the Australian model/configuration. | Module generations differ. Do not apply an older 48kWh stack limit or its power specification to every current configuration. |
| Sigenergy SigenStor | Up to six battery modules per controller. Six BAT 10.0 modules give 54.24kWh nominal / 52.56kWh usable. Multi-system designs can expand beyond one stack. | AU controller family: 5–12kW single phase; 5–30kW three phase. | Gateway selection and battery power determine the supported backup/parallel arrangement. BAT 10.0 is 9.04kWh nominal, not 10kWh usable. |
| FoxESS | EQ4800: 9.32–41.93kWh; EP11: 10.36kWh/enclosure; CQ6: 11.98–83.86kWh/string; CQ7: 13.92–97.44kWh/string. See model limits below. | Single- and three-phase hybrid options. The inverter determines the permitted battery string size and number of strings. | The biggest CQ7 string is not supported by every residential FoxESS inverter. Compare exact configurations ↓ |
| Sungrow SBR / SBH | SBR: 6.4–25.6kWh usable/unit; supported four-unit arrangements up to 102.4kWh. Current AU SBH: 15–40kWh usable/unit; up to 160kWh with four units. | Compatible single- and three-phase Sungrow hybrid inverters; allowable batteries and power vary by model. | SBR and SBH are separate families. Expansion equipment and inverter compatibility must match. See the range comparison ↓ |
| EcoFlow OCEAN 2 Plus | Current AU page advertises 96kWh/inverter and 480kWh across five on-grid inverters. The verified 5.02kWh-module configuration supports 60.24kWh nominal/inverter. See the version note below. | 8 / 9.999 / 12kW single-phase models, with integrated backup. | Do not assume the newer advertised storage ceiling applies to the 5.02kWh modules. On-grid and backup parallel limits also differ. |
| Fronius Reserva | 6.31–15.79kWh usable/tower. Up to four equal-capacity towers: 63.16kWh usable with a suitable three-phase inverter. | External Fronius hybrid inverter: Primo, Symo or Verto compatibility depends on exact model. | Single-phase limits differ. Standard Primo GEN24 Plus supports smaller Reserva towers; do not assume the three-phase maximum applies. |
| Tesla Powerwall 3 | 13.5kWh usable/main unit. Up to three Expansion units add 40.5kWh, giving 54kWh for that arrangement. Multiple main units are supported subject to design limits. | Single-phase. AU manual lists 5 / 10 / 11.04kW configured ratings; the approved output depends on model and local conditions. | Adding Expansion batteries increases stored energy, not the main unit’s inverter rating. It is not a native three-phase inverter. |
| Anker SOLIX X1 | 5kWh modules; up to 30kWh per power module. Current AU dual-parallel guidance supports 60kWh. | AU single-phase 5/6kW and three-phase 5/8/10/12kW options; select AC-coupled or hybrid equipment correctly. | Power Dock Pro supports two parallel X1 systems. Global six-system claims should not be assumed for that AU configuration. |
| Deye AI-W5.1-B / AI-WX-B | Current AU battery/PDU documentation allows 1–6 modules: 5.12–30.72kWh. Manufacturer platform advertising extends to 36 modules, approximately 184kWh. | ESS inverter options include 3.6–10kW single phase and 5–12kW three phase. | Battery/PDU and all-in-one ESS minimum configurations differ. Confirm module revision, usable capacity and the complete multi-cluster design. |
| BYD Battery-Box | HVS: 5.12–12.8kWh/tower, up to 38.4kWh; HVM: 8.28–22.08kWh/tower, up to 66.24kWh. LVS: 4–24kWh/tower, up to 256kWh in a different tower arrangement. Usable figures. | External compatible inverter determines single/three-phase operation and backup. High-voltage HVS/HVM and low-voltage LVS/LVL are different architectures. | LVS20/24 towers cannot simply be paralleled. LVL is a separate 15.36kWh indoor cabinet platform. |
EcoFlow version note: the current AU product page advertises a higher ceiling than the July 2026 datasheet’s twelve 5.02kWh modules. Treat 96kWh/480kWh as advertised platform potential requiring confirmation of the exact battery modules and current Australian configuration. We have not substituted that figure for verified usable capacity.
Calculated totals use the stated module or tower values. They are not a promise of energy delivered to appliances. Reserves, conversion losses, temperature and ageing affect real operation. Large commercial arrangements are not automatically suitable for a residential connection.
Four battery families, different limits
4.66kWh module steps, with 2–9 modules and up to 41.93kWh usable per stack in the current AU sheet. Suitable H3 Pro arrangements support two stacks, subject to the manufacturer’s configuration table.
10.36kWh usable per enclosure in the September 2025 AU specification; up to four parallel enclosures. That calculates to 41.44kWh, while the brochure rounds its headline to 41.6kWh. Wall or floor mounting offers a different layout from a tall stack.
AU datasheet. Older AU sheets list 9.331kWh usable, so check the supplied revision.
5.99kWh module steps, with 11.98–83.86kWh nominal and usable per string in the current AU sheet. The inverter sets the permitted module count. FoxESS describes a larger H3 Plus arrangement with three stacks, up to 251.58kWh, for appropriately designed larger projects.
6.96kWh module steps and up to 97.44kWh usable per string. That headline requires a compatible inverter: the single-phase H1-G2 and KH families support up to seven modules per string, or 48.72kWh, in the reviewed declaration.
| Inverter family | Supply phase | CQ7 capacity per string | Larger arrangement |
|---|---|---|---|
| H1/AC1-G2 and KH/KA | Single phase | L2–L7: 13.92–48.72kWh | Use the exact inverter configuration. |
| H3 Smart / H3 Pro | Three phase | L3–L12: 20.88–83.52kWh | H3 Pro supports two independent strings; 167.04kWh calculated maximum. |
| H3 Plus | Three phase; larger commercial inverter family | L4–L14: 27.84–97.44kWh | Three strings; 292.32kWh calculated maximum. This is not a standard home configuration. |
FoxESS is included for comparison. Ask us to confirm current availability and the exact configuration before treating a model as an installed offer.
Installed systems available by quote
6.4–25.6kWh usable per unit with 2–8 modules. Examples include SBR160 at 16kWh and SBR256 at 25.6kWh. The manufacturer manual allows four-unit parallel arrangements with additional connection equipment; inverter compatibility remains decisive.
The current AU range lists SBH150–SBH400: 15–40kWh usable per unit. Four units provide up to 160kWh. Compatible families include SHT, SHRS and SHRS-20; the selected inverter and battery count determine available power.
We can supply and arrange installation of Sungrow systems. Request a written quote for the required capacity, inverter, backup design and location. We can compare another quote using the same inclusions before you choose.
A heater helps a battery reach an appropriate charging temperature in cold conditions. It uses energy and may depend on firmware, settings and an available power source. An operating range below 0°C alone does not prove that a battery has a heater.
“Not confirmed” means the reviewed documentation does not establish the feature for that exact Australian model. It does not mean we have proved the heater is absent. Ask for the heated variant to be identified on the quote.

Outdoor-rated does not mean “install anywhere”. Direct sun, flooding, salt exposure, ventilation, clearances and building-use restrictions still matter. A garage may be indoors but remain cold overnight. Ask the installer to confirm the location for both the initial system and any future expansion.
A platform’s largest battery configuration tells you how much energy it can hold. It does not tell you how many appliances will run during an outage. Ask for continuous battery-only output, starting-load capability, backup circuits and per-phase limits.
GoodWe ESA and EcoFlow OCEAN 2 Plus have integrated backup functions, with installation still required for the intended circuits. SigenStor uses an appropriate Sigen Energy Gateway. Tesla Powerwall 3 uses its supported backup equipment. Component capability does not mean every quote includes complete blackout protection.
A single-phase inverter on a three-phase property is not the same as a three-phase backup system. Large three-phase air conditioners, pumps and motors need the correct phase supply, starting power and protection design.
Fronius example: compatibility depends on the exact inverter. Full Backup is unavailable on Symo GEN24 3.0–5.0 Plus, and paralleling Reserva towers does not increase its 32A battery-current limit. Check the backup compatibility guidance and parallel-operation instructions.
Expansion example: BYD LVS can reach 256kWh using sixteen LVS16 towers, but the 20kWh and 24kWh single-tower configurations cannot be paralleled. A bigger initial tower is not always the route to the largest later system.

Once the platform suits your goals, compare prices for a consistent configuration. Match usable storage, inverter power, supply phase, backup circuits, heater variant and the installation location.
We can supply a suitable system from our range and compare an alternative quote using the same inclusions. Sungrow installations are available by quote; ask us to confirm availability for other configurations. Brand inclusion in this guide does not imply every model is stocked or offered by LiFePO4 Australia.
The useful shortlist depends on your existing solar, required output, storage needs, climate, location and service preferences. This comparison shows capabilities and limits; it does not award test scores or claim one system is best for every home.
LiFePO4, or lithium iron phosphate (LFP), is a lithium-ion battery chemistry. Both terms can describe the same home storage product. Check the exact model specification, usable capacity and operating conditions.
No. Heating addresses cold battery operation. It does not remove restrictions on rain, sunlight, flooding, salt exposure, clearances or building locations. The entire installation must suit the selected equipment and site.
Only the appropriate combination of modules, inverter, controllers and connection equipment can reach a documented maximum. The FoxESS CQ7 inverter table shows why single-phase and larger three-phase configurations have different limits.
Battery variants and regional specifications change. We mark a heater as confirmed only where the reviewed manufacturer material establishes it. Ask for the exact heated version and current Australian documentation on the quote.
Tell us your existing inverter, suburb, electricity use, backup priorities and future plans. We will help compare a suitable configuration and the platform’s realistic expansion path.
Start an installed system assessment ↗Reviewed 13 September 2026 using the manufacturer sources linked beside each specification. Capacity totals identified as calculated are arithmetic from published module values. Advertised platform ceilings are labelled where they exceed the verified configuration. Heater evidence is model-specific; absent documentation is not treated as proof that a feature is absent. Confirm the latest Australian model approvals, compatibility and warranty before ordering.
